What are the Features of a Wireless Printer?

The single distinguishing feature of wireless printers is that they do not need to be connected to your computer with wires, they are connected using your wireless LAN network. This means that you can place the printer at a convenient location for you within your home or office without having to worry about the proximity of the printer to the computer. This feature minimising the chance of tripping up over troublesome wires and reduces the number of wires hanging around your work setting, meaning less clutter and facilitates information sharing in work settings.

Wireless printers, like standard wired printers can come with a variety of extra functions depending on which particular brand or model you choose, to enrich your printing experience including printers with the ability to copy, scan and fax- although a wireless printer with the ability to fax would require wires to plug it into the phone socket.

Wireless printers are connected locally through Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), so you will need to have a wireless router and broadband internet connection. Obviously a well secured encrypted network is required to ensure security, but this means that several computers can be linked to the one printer, reducing the need to have multiple printers available for use by multiple users. Once all of the computers in your network are linked up to your printer, you can print anything from any room in the house or from any part of the office, from any computer in the network within the designated wireless range of your wireless printer.

Apart from the obvious benefits of reducing the clutter of wires, space saving and safety issues where wires are concerned, there is the added benefit of using one printer for multiple computers. Minimising the use of switches and adaptors required to link multiple printers to multiple computers can produce a potential energy saving as well as making information sharing easier in a work environment.

Wireless printers are available with all of the same features as wired printers but without the wires. You can get fast printing, within quite a large range with some printers able to work within a range of up to 300 feet. There are a range of wireless printers available for different your needs from the personal wireless printer for home use to wireless printers for office use. Some office wireless printers have the capability to connect to a large network of computers. You can get desk top inkjet colour multifunction printer scanners, black and white inkjets, black and white laser printers, high speed printers, or basic printers. Whatever your needs are, there is a wireless printer to suit most printing needs. Wireless printers mean that you can print from your lap top or pc wherever you are in your home or office as long as you are within range of the printer without using any wires at all.
